spokeoApr 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The services of the site Spokeo have created widespread controversy among the web users in recent times. The site is not very old nor are many people yet aware of its capabilities but a section of security experts are warning that it may be used as a tool for intruding into one's privacy. The site is far more powerful than regular search engines and it digs deep in the web and extracts detailed information about anybody. While it may prove to be useful for the employers who want to verify the background of an employee or detectives, the tool may be used by malicious hackers for stealing credit card information and other types of sensitive data from others.

The site clearly use different search algorithm compared to the trusted search engines. It may reveal personal details of a person to others like photos and hobbies and old addresses. It goes through real estate sites, phone directories, marketing surveys and even the social networking sites to trace the details of a person. The danger is that the person may not even come to know that his private information is exposed to others he does not know.

However, it is not that the site always provides accurate information. No matter if the website brings out correct data or not, a lot of people are not okay with the idea of their personal information being divulged to others. To use the service a person needs to pay the site $3 per month. However, security experts are worried about the possibility of this site getting used for wrong purposes.

Revenue Department Extends Hours to Help Late-Season ... - Earthtimes

Posted: 07 Apr 2010 09:33 AM PDT

Extra Evening, Saturday Assistance Available

HARRISBURG, Pa., April 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvanians in need of late-season tax help will benefit from extended service hours offered by the Department of Revenue's Taxpayer Service and Information Center, acting Revenue Secretary C. Daniel Hassell said today.

On weekdays from Thursday, April 8, through Thursday, April 15, the center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will also operate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 10. The center will be closed Sunday, April 11.

"With the April 15 personal income tax filing deadline fast approaching, we want to be available to help taxpayers beyond regular business hours," said Hassell.

The Taxpayer Service and Information Center helps taxpayers with personal income tax questions. Assistance is available by calling 717-787-8201, or through the Online Customer Service Center at www.revenue.state.pa.us.

The center's staff can answer questions about electronic tax filing options, including the department's two free options: TeleFile (by phone) and pa.direct.file, available through www.revenue.state.pa.us.

If a taxpayer filed a return last year, they may file by phone with TeleFile by simply providing their Social Security number and five-digit ZIP Code. To file using pa.direct.file, a taxpayer will need to provide their Social Security number and one of the following: 2008 or 2007 tax liability; PA driver's license or identification number; or a registered e-signature account with the department. Also available through tax preparers and authorized computer software is the Fed/State e-file service, which allows taxpayers to file state and federal tax returns together or separately.

Electronic filing offers advantages to taxpayers not available to those filing by paper, such as error-reducing automatic calculators, instant confirmation of successful filing, faster refund processing and direct deposit options. Electronic filing is also the most cost-effective filing method, saving the state about $3.49 per return.

Through April 2, nearly 2.6 million Pennsylvanians filed state income taxes electronically ? about 2 percent more than last year at that time. More than 963,000 taxpayers have filed paper returns.

Through www.revenue.state.pa.us, taxpayers can file returns using pa.direct.file, make payments (including estimated payments), check the status of returns and refunds, update information, access online customer service, review answers to commonly asked questions and download tax forms.

Forms are also available by calling, toll-free, 1-800-362-2050. Taxpayers may also visit a Revenue district office, listed in the government section of local phone directories, for personal state tax filing assistance.

Yellow Media To Buy Canpages For C$225 Mln - Update - RTT News

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 07:48 AM PDT

3/30/2010 9:55 AM ET
(RTTNews) - Yellow Media Inc. (YLO_UN.TO: News ) said Tuesday that it has agreed to buy search and directories publisher Canadian Phone Directories Holdings Inc. or Canpages from an investor group led by private equity firm HM Capital Partners for about C$225 million.

The deal will combine two of Canada's biggest publishers of advertising directories and local web search engines and enable Yellow Media to boost its online presence.

Yellow Media also announced its plans to sell its U.S. directory business, YPG Directories LLC, to Ziplocal LP.

Yellow Media, a subsidiary of Yellow Pages Income Fund, said that the purchase price consideration for Canpages of C$225 million is comprised of C$75 million payable in cash at closing to settle third party debt obligations and the issuance of C$150 million of mandatory exchangeable promissory notes of Yellow Media. The notes will rank subordinate to the senior debt of Yellow Media and bear interest at a fixed initial rate of 5%, payable quarterly in cash.

Starting in the first quarter of 2011 following Yellow Pages Income Fund's conversion to a corporation, the notes will be convertible into common shares of Yellow Media, giving the current owners of Canpages a minority stake in Canada's largest publisher of directories including Yellow Pages and related web search engines. Yellow Media owns Yellow Pages Group and Trader Corporation.

Each quarter, Dallas, Texas-based HM Capital Partners will have the right to exchange C$37.5 million of the notes, representing 25% of the principal amount. Yellow Media may redeem all or a portion of the notes for cash together with accrued and unpaid interest at any time following closing and until December 31, 2014.

Vancouver-based Canpages publishes 84 directories for a total circulation of about 8 million copies. The company's website, Canpages.ca, attracts more than 3.5 million unique visitors each month. Canpages generates annualized revenues of C$110 million with an online contribution of approximately 23%. The company employs about 700 people in Canada, including more than 450 sales consultants.

Yellow Media said it will continue to publish the Canpages print directories after the deal closes.

Marc Tellier, Chief Executive Officer of Yellow Pages Group, said, "The acquisition of Canpages will accelerate our business transformation to the digital world. Canpages has built a strong local search business and we are pleased with the prospects of joining forces. It will give us the opportunity to expand our sales force, online capabilities and customer offerings."
